Recapping episode 7 of drama serial Zulm
After a video of Esha (Sahar Hashmi) and Omair (Raeed Muhammad Alam) goes viral, drama serial Zulm episode 7 finds Malik Ajlal (Faysal Quraishi) and Minal (Amra Zahid Kazi) at the Police station.
However, In a classic example of art imitating life, the Police do not interrogate the terrible two, instead, an apologetic and worried-looking Police inspector offers them food and drink.
Meanwhile, Esha and Omair are treated for injuries at a hospital. Their mother scolds Esha and chides her for befriending Manal. This comes off as realistic because, unfortunately, blaming the victim in our society is the norm.
Shehzad Sheikh’s character’s mother, played by Tazeen Hussain is seen following the case keenly. The incident has visibly perturbed her, but she doesn’t say why when her son asks her.
Don’t look back in anger
To add insult to injury, Esha and her family watch a news report of Malik Ajlal and Minal free on bail. Esha feels betrayed but Omair is not surprised. When the press shows up at their home, Esha makes a strong statement against her captors.
Back home from ‘prison,’ Manal is outraged at Esha’s interview. Ajlal placates her and assures her that he is not done with them yet.
Omair’s love interest from Canada, Javeria, makes a surprise entrance. She comes across as pushy and rude. She misbehaves with Esha and her mother.
In the closing scenes, the Police show up at Esha and Omair’s home with an arrest warrant for Omair on trumped-up charges of money laundering and owning an unlicensed firearm. With all the media attention, arresting Omair does not seem plausible.
Sons of politicians and high-handedness corruption in the Police have become recurring themes in Hum TV dramas (see Ishq Murshid). Usually, In cases like this, what we do see is the character of a victim maligned on mainstream news channels.
I can see why Hum would be reluctant to discuss uncomfortable truths about news channels since they own one. They have major skin in the game.
But Hum TV has to contend with a problem. They now have two primetime dramas telling essentially the same story, and one has a catchier hook.
Our verdict: Drama serial Zulm episode 7 does not match the intensity of the previous episode. The story arc also comes across as a bit half-baked.
Our rating: 3/5
