Recapping episode 19 of drama serial Jaan e Jahan

Jaan e Jahan episode 19 resumes from where episode 18 left off. Shehram (Hamza Ali Abbasi ) visits the Chief Minister, Jamal, with Kishwar in tow. Jamal proposes Shehram and Alia’s (Srha Asghar) marriage in exchange for the parcel of land where the village school has been built, but Shehram refuses the arrangement.

Jamal and his wife feel insulted by Shehram’s refusal and abrupt departure. When his wife wants to discuss Shehram’s behavior, but Jamal skirts the issue, and asks her to make preparations for some guests. The mystery guests will probably play a bigger role in future episodes.

Taimoor (Emmad Irfani) is up and about, thanks in part to the food from Mahnoor’s (Ayeza Khan) home. All three characters, Mahnoor, Shehram and Taimoor seem to enjoy a good relationship, and a love triangle seems miles away at this point. Does this mean Jaan e Jahan will be a longer-than-usual serial? Only time will tell.

Speaking of love, Shehram and Mahnoor’s flirty, yet wholesome, banter continues, but the romance seems to be dragging a bit now. Maybe it’s time for Shehram to take things to a new level.

At the factory, sparks fly, but not in a good way for Tabrez (Haris Waheed). Gulzeb (Nawal Saeed) is upset about people gossiping about her because of the office car picking and dropping her to and from home. To top it off Tabrez gives her a new place to work, away from the the rest of the people. Kishwar (Savera Nadeem) gets the goods on Gulzeb and Tabrez’s interest in her.

She resolves to make a match for Tabrez and Alia, and moves a step closer when she manages to convince Naz, Alia’s mother, played by Zainab Qayyum. She later receives a phone call from Naz who tells her that Jamal has agreed to the proposal. Of course, there is bound to be some scheme behind this match. And then there is Abdul (Raza Talish) who has an online friendship with Alia. In a later scene Tabrez reluctantly agrees to the marriage.

Meanwhile, Shehram escalates things with jamal and shows up at his election rally. He confronts Jamal over the disputed land and both take potshots at each other. It feels like the the writers are laying the ground for Shehram contesting the elections against Jamal.

The drama ends while Mahnoor is drawing Shehram’s portrait at his request. Que the theme song, and close-ups shot in slow motion.

Best fits from Jaan e Jahan episode 19

For this episode, we pick another monochrome kurta and pajama by Shehram, this time in a shade of deep blue. The kurta and waistcoat have matching buttons, not golden this time. This outfit is all business, and it’s what Shehram wears when he crashes Jamal’s jalsa.

Shehram’s only bling in this look is his trusty gold watch and gold-tone wire rimmed dark sunglasses.

Black tassel loafers or Oxfords would complete the outfit well. Penny loafers and a steel sports watch will do the trick in low-key setting.

The other fit that made us sit up and take notice was Kishwar’s maroon shalwar and kameez with black lace on the sleeve cuffs. Finishing the outfit is a subdued, traditional, necklace in black jewels and gold and gold earrings. The buttons of the kameez are also golden and lend well to the look. A black, embroidered, shawl with gold motifs without being loud, when she visits with Naz, is the cherry on top of the proverbial cake.

The understated accessories game is strong in this episode.

Our take on Jaan e Jahan episode 19

Overall, a strong episode with the battle lines being drawn between Shehram and Jamal. Shehram seems to be destined to fighting this out on the political battle field. Tabrez, unwittingly, is being asked to join the enemy camp, a position that he is sure to relish.

The casualties of the drama serial so far are Gul Zeb, Abdul, and Zeenat (Mariam Nafees). Will they have their day?

Our verdict: Overall, a strong episode, but there is a danger of Shehram and Mahnoor’s romance getting stale

Our rating: 4/5
