Recapping episode 28 of ARY drama Sukoon
As the ARY drama serial seems to be heading toward its climax, There is a lot to unpack in episode 28 of Sukoon. Let’s dig in.
Shanzay’s (Sidra Niazi) mother, played by Atiqa Odho, is in a panic because her husband, Usman Peerzada, has refused to postpone Shanzay and Hamdaan’s engagement. She also can’t get a hold of her son, Raza, so she can get him to attend his sister’s engagement. He eventually does show up.
Meanwhile, Shanzay is upset because her father, who is also Hamdaan’s (Ahsan Khan) boss, has ‘gifted’ the deed to a brand new house to Hamdaan. You may recall that Hamdaan had convinced Shanzay to delay the engagement because he wanted to improve his financial standing first.
Shanzay thinks that Hamdaan thinks that she pressured her father to gift them the house, and that this has strained their relationship.
A very long engagement
Meanwhile, Hamdaan and Aina’s (Sana Javed) romance is blossoming. A late-night incident in the kitchen when Aina burns her hand. And promptly, out comes the burn cream accompanied by hand-holding and a dreamy, wide-eyed slow-motion sequence.
Drama serial Sukoon is not without its problems. Hamdaan, by continuing to hide his relationship with Aina, is digging himself deeper and deeper into a hole. It will be hard for the writers to position Hamdaan where his story arc is resolved with dignity and grace.
On the other hand, Aima (Qudsia Ali) finds an ally in her mother-in-law but her husband remains relentless in his physical and mental abuse. It’s hard to see how Aima’s story will be resolved happily.
The episode ends when Hamdaan leaves Shanzay and her mother abruptly during a shopping trip to pick up Aina. He, and this is hard to rationalize, tells Shanzay that her father needs him in the office.
When Shanzay calls her father to vent her frustration, he tells her that he did not ask Hamdaan to come to the office. This seems like either rushed or lazy writing. Why would Hamdaan tell such an obvious lie?
It took a long time for Shanzay to recover from her despair. Will she survive a betrayal of this magnitude from Hamdaan? These pertinent questions, and the writers have their work cut out for them to paint Hamdaan in a good light when the dust settles.
Our verdict: The ARY drama Sukoon is moving towards it climax but it is plagued by spotty writing.
Our rating: 3.5/5
