A stellar performance by Savera Nadeem in Jaan e Jahan
Savera Nadeem elevates her performance in episodes 11 and 12 of drama serial Jaan e Jahan to deliver an acting master class. For the uninitiated, Savera Nadeem plays Kishwar, the evil stepmother to Shehram (Hamza Ali Abbasi). To be sure Kishwar has to navigate all the usual tropes of such a character, but she transcends them with a show-stealing performance. Epsiodes 11 and 12 had a lot to offer in terms of the development of the plot. Let’s dig in.
Recapping episodes 11 and 12 of Jaan e Jahan
In episode 11 the build-up to a confrontation between Mahnoor (Ayeza Khan) and Kishwar finally materializes. And what a confrontation. Kishwar holds no punches and pummels a dazed Manoor into a shaken, sobbing heap. She minces no words in telling her not to set foot in the haveli again.
Feeling dejected and insulted after Kishwar’s shock and awe, Mahnoor goes home, but Kishwar isn’t quite done with her yet. She instructs the house help to spread a rumor that Mahnoor spent the night of Shehram’s birthday at the haveli. The rumors soon reach Mahnoor’s father (played by Noor ul Hasan), who is understandably upset. He forbids Mahnoor from going to the haveli.
Meanwhile, Shehram doesn’t catch wind of any of this and is perplexed by Mahnoor’s absence. He tries to make contact with her but she ignores his calls and messages.
The construction of the school building is also stalled, because of Shehram’s drugged state. The architect, Taimoor (Emmad Irfani) is frustrated by the perceived lack of interest from Shehram.
An unlikely ally
In a welcome plot twist, Zeenat (Mariam Nafees) discovers that Shehram’s food is being drugged by Kishwar’s orders. She manages to get unadulterated meals to him. She also sympathizes with him. Episode 12 also finds her connecting with Shehram as a fellow orphan.
Toward the end of episode 12 Mahnoor discovers Shehram has dozed off in his car outside her home. This pleases her.
Our verdict: Two strong episodes elevated by Savera Nadeem’s performance
