Drama serial Jaan e Jahan episode 4

Recapping episode 4 of drama serial Jaan e Jahan

Jaan e Jahan – episode 4 continues to explore how Shehram (Hamza Ali Ababsi) and Kishwar (Savera Nadeem) are affected very differently by Murad Shah’s sudden death. Shehram depended on his father for guidance and support, so now he feels lost and alone.

Shehram is understandably a mess after his father’s sudden demise. Kishwar drugs him using prescription medicine on what we can assume is a regular basis.

The timeline fast forwards three months and we find Shehram, in his room, wallowing in his grief. He seems cut off from the outside world. Kishwar and his manservant are his only visitors for most of the episode.

Kishwar’s son, Tabrez (Haris Waheed), who is tasked with running the family business – a factory – is in fact running into the ground. A check signed for the salaries of the staff goes missing, and the money is unaccounted for.

We find Mahnoor (Ayeza Khan) upbeat in the face of her family’s increasing financial challenges. She starts tutoring children to generate income. Her father (Noor ul Hasan) on the other hand is frustrated and despondent.

Comfortably numb

Kishwar asks Shehram to sign another check. Shehram signs the check, and offers the factory to Kishwar to run. Kishwar happily accepts.

Meanwhile, Kishwar’s niece, Zeenat, played by Mariam Nafees, drops by for a surprise visit. Zeenat’s backstory soon emerges: she was orphaned in her formative years, and Kishwar has been her benefactor.

Kishwar asks the unwitting Zeenat to stay with them for a while. She also starts steering her towards meeting Shehram to help him through his difficult time. She also suggests the possibility of marriage.

Zeenat brings Shehram his meal and offers her condolences. She empathizes with him. Shehram is upset that she saw him in his worn and pitiful state.

Mahnoor wants to kick-start a project – an abandoned school that the late Murad Shah started. She gets permission from her father to discuss the proposal with Kishwar.

Afterward, at the haveli, Mahnoor has a chance meeting with Shehram. Both seem happy to see each other.

In conclusion, Jaan e Jahan – episode 4 brings nothing exciting to the table. The story is moving forward slowly. No fresh themes or earth-shattering twists have emerged so far.

Savera Nadeem seems comfortable in the role of the evil stepmother. She has the acting chops to deliver a character with depth and nuance, but it remains to be seen whether the director, Qasim Ali Mureed, can finesse her performance into a stellar one.
