Recapping episode 29 of drama serial Mannat Murad
Drama serial Mannat Murad episode 29 poses a perplexing question: why are key male characters in Mannat Murad so helpless? The characters of Murad and Faisal played by Talha Chahour and Ali Safina have major decision-making issues.
They are sinking in quicksand made of equal parts helplessness and hopelessness. It’s a drag and it’s not sustainable.
The women on the other hand are showing grit, for better or for worse. Murad’s mother has dug her heels in and no amount of diplomacy has swayed her. There are no staunch advocates of Mannat (Iqra Aziz) in the Chaudry household.
Murad’s older sister, Nudrat (Faiza Gillani), is firmly in the anti-Mannat camp. The rest of the sisters feel bad for Murad and shed tears with him, but no voice of reason, no champion of Mannat and Murad’s flailing marriage has emerged.
Murad’s friend tries to shake him out of his stupor but does not succeed. Murad’s co-worker takes a softer approach, both with Murad and Mannat, but to no avail.
The final cut
Meanwhile, Murad’s worst fears/insecurities are realized when Mannat’s elder brother (Noor ul Hassan) tries to set Mannat up with Ammar (Ali Rehman Khan). Ammar senses this but seems hesitant. His character seems well thought-out and mature.
Since neither Mannat nor Murad take the first toward reconciliation, we have a Mexican standoff on our hands. Mannat and her family strike first and send the divorce papers to Murad by mail.
Toward the end we see Mannat and Ammar in his car, going shopping, Ammar tries to be the devil’s advocate and advises Mannat to try and make amends with Murad to save their marriage, but Mannat refuses.
Our verdict: Overall, a much stronger outing than the last episode. The major let-down is the character development for Murad.
Our rating: 3.5/5
