Mein, an Urdu word, generally means “I” and also alludes to “ego.” The ARY Digital drama Mein is a big-budget production, and leading actors of the Pakistani drama industry have been cast.

The Mein drama cast includes Wahaj Ali, Ayeza Khan, and Azekah Daniel in leading roles. While Shahzad Nawaz, Usman Peerzada, and Aijaz Aslam are found to be the heads of the three main families. Mein is a rollercoaster ride that will take you to a world of power and desire. A love triangle, a revenge plot, betrayals, and schemes. What’s not to love?

Mein’s characters are complex, and so is the plot. But worry not, we are going to break down this complicated beast that is Mein.

Meet the players

Wahaj Ali, aka Zaid Asif, is presented as the son of the biggest businessman, Shahzad Nawaz, aka Asif Ali, who is the personification of wealth and power. Zaid is married to Ayeza Khan, aka Mubashira Jaffer, the daughter of her father’s friend. She belongs to a similarly wealthy and powerful family. Her father, Usman Peerzada, aka Jaffer, is also a wealthy businessman.

The story gets interesting when we learn that the married couple, Zaid and Mubashira, are unlucky in love. Zaid is in love with someone else. Who?

The real story starts from here. Zaid loves Aira, the protagonist of Mein. Aira comes from a middle-class family, whom Asif Ali refused to accept her as his daughter-in-law. Sigh!

Mubashira Jaffer (or MJ as fans of the show refer to her) is a control freak. Fans were amazed by Ayeza’s remarkable acting skills and the confidence with which she carries Mubashira. She is very proud of her family background. She has a strong ego and is a fashionista but unlucky in her love life. She has been married before (her ex-husband, Mohit, surprises her with divorce papers on their second wedding anniversary.)

Mein Mubashira Jaffer hoon,” Mubashira’s iconic dialogue in the series became famous.

Classy, cunning, and cruel, Asif Ali radiates power. Fans love his dominating, cruel dialogue delivery and remarkable fashion sense. He is against Aira and Zaid’s marriage, and even tortures Aira’s family and brother, Aamir.

Twists and turns in Mein

The storyline takes an unexpected turn when Mubashira and Zaid’s paths cross. Their marriage makes sense on so many levels: both of their fathers are business partners and good friends. Their union would serve to strengthen not only their family business but would also bind the families together.

The battle of egos war between Zaid and his father, Asif, takes centre stage in Mein, with Mubashara and Aira stuck in the middle.

Complicating the tale further is Mubashira’s pursuit of revenge on Kashmala, Zaid’s sister, who is married to Rayyan (Mubashira’s brother). On the other hand, Aira plots revenge against Asif, who is always one step ahead of her.

Mubashara eventually agrees to let Zaid marry Aira to save their marriage. After Zaid takes Aira as his second wife, Mubashira’s behavior toward Zaid changes.
